Sarehole Mill

Year 3 had a fantastic day out at Sarehole Mill. We were explorers for the day and explored around the grounds and areas such as the 'Bug Hotel' and  the 'Sound Wall' using binoculars and microscopes. We also learnt about the Stone Age and Bronze and the materials they used to make their shelters as well how they lived their lives. The children thoroughly enjoyed this learning experience.

Stone Age Stewed Fruit

Year 3 have been studying instruction texts and as part of the process we made some Stone Age stewed fruit using a selection of fruits, hazelnut and honey as an added sweetener. The process not only allowed the children to get stuck in practically but also informed their own writing of instructions following the making of the fruit stew.
Year 3 have been learning about different types of rocks. Granular, crystallised and fossilised. We looked at the formation of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. The children were given an assortment of rocks and were asked to group the rocks according to their appearance. We then sorted the rocks correctly and the children were excited to see if their predictions were correct.

Mighty Metals on the way.

Year 3 are in the process of starting our new topic - Mighty Metals! To kick-start the process we took a visit to Handsworth Park and had a blast playing on the apparatus and exploring the various forces that were present when using the play apparatus. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and were enthusiastic in applying their scientific knowledge on forces to what they were doing.
