Ancient Greece at BMAG!

This week, a very excited Y3 visited Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as part of their Gods & Mortals topic - on arriving, they carefully made their way to the top floor to observe and sketch some of the artefacts in the Ancient Greek gallery and made notes of how old items were and where they were found looking at the notes underneath each artefact.   Children enjoyed using their maths skills to work out the age of the objects and it started some interesting conversations about where Greece and Cyprus were in the world, their BC/AD understanding, 'fragments' of pottery, 'excavating' and 'archaeology' - all words that the children had learned in the Flints and Stones topic last term.  It was so good to see that they are applying their knowledge and understanding! Greek Theater Masks

This term, as part of our DT, we have designed our own theatre masks and have started to make actual models. Using modelling rock and using a mask template we layered the mod-rock and started to create and shape features similar to our design. Although we ended up with mod-rock all over us the children thoroughly enjoyed it and produced some fantastic masks. On to painting and decorating now!
