Mini Olympics

Year 3 were lucky enough  to have a visit from Bella, who works for Asda Perry Barr. Bella organised a mini-Olympic style games, where children competed in groups and individually over a variety of sporting tasks. At the end of it we were tired but fitter than ever! We all got into the sporting spirit and were even rewarded with stickers, certificates, wristbands and medals for the group winners! A big thank you to Bella for visiting Welford and sorting out the event!

Greek Immersion Day

To welcome the children back and hook them into our new topic, Great Gods and Mere Mortals, Year 3 had a Greek immersion day. As soon as the children arrived in the morning, we dressed them up as Ancient Greek citizens. We created leafy wreaths to wear and sang Greek themed songs. In the afternoon, we took the children into the hall and treated them to a culinary experience featuring a range of greek delicacies such as olives, feta cheese and tzatziki.

Friction

Year 3 have been building their own cars in D.T. Once built they were used to investigate the effects of friction. to do this the children rolled the cars down a series of different ramps which each had a different surface texture. Sponge, wood, sandpaper and carpet. Before beginning their investigation they made a series of predictions about which surfaces would create the most friction. Then the fun began ! Stone Age Stewed Fruit

Year 3 have been studying instruction texts and as part of the process we made some Stone Age stewed fruit using a selection of fruits, hazelnut and honey as an added sweetener. The process not only allowed the children to get stuck in practically but also informed their own writing of instructions following the making of the fruit stew.
